Stage Director
Muriel Von Villas has staged over 200 productions throughout the United States and abroad. Highlights include Falstaff, Le nozze di Figaro, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Boheme, Tosca, Dialogues des Carmelites, La Traviata, Lucia Di Lammermoor, and L'Ormindo for Opera International, Carmen for Natchez Opera, Company for Seagle Colony, L'elisir d'amore with Bohème Opera, L'Italiani in Algieri for Berkshire Opera, La Cenerentola for the Washington National Opera Domingo Cafritz Young Artists Renwick Gallery performance, Rigoletto for Sri Lanka Opera, and Gianni Schicchi for the Taiwan Conservatory, where she served as a visiting professor.
Ms. Von Villas studied directing with John Moriarty at New England Conservatory and Boris Goldovsky at the Goldovsky Institute. She has staged operas and taught as a faculty member at The George Washington University, George Mason University, and Georgetown University. Ms. Von Villas was a stage director and coach with the Washington National Opera Domingo Cafritz Young Artists Program, The Minnesota Opera Institute, Martina Arroyo's Prelude to Performance, and The Goldovsky Institute, and has lectured at The Smithsonian Institute on Opera, Puccini, and The Voice.
Ms. Von Villas is a strong advocate for the development of new operas and has worked with contemporary composers Michael Ching, Henry Mollicone, Scott Wheeler, and Erica Muhl, and staged their operas throughout the country.
